The largest full-service mountain bike stage race in the world, the ABSA Cape Epic, came to and end on 25 March, and the most televised mountain bike race in the world was as tough as ever.
This year’s overall Epic title was won by Jaroslav Kulhavy and Howard Grotts of Investec-Songo-Specialized, after completing the final stage at Val de Vie in the Western Cape with a total time of 25:29:48.
Second place went to Canyon Topeark’s Alban Lakata and Kristian Hynek, and third to Buff Scott MTB’s Francesc Guerra Carretero and Luis Leao Pinto.
The overall women’s title was won by Annika Langvad and Kate Courtney of Investec-Songo-Specialized, while Sabine Spitz and Robyn de Groot of Ascendis Health came in second, and Mariske Strauss and Annie Last of Silverback-KMC got the third place accolade.
Massimo Debertolis and Ondrej Fojtik (Wilier Force 7C 2) took the top spot in the Masters category, and in the Grand Masters, Robert Sim and Udo Boelts of Robert Daniel won. The mixed race was won by Nicky Giliomee and Brennan Anderson of Journey by Junto.
